Flash dryers utilize the gas stream for transferring the product. Flash drying can also be used as a pneumatic transport, thus serving as 2 needs. Flash drying depends on a carrier gas, normally air, to transfer the thermal energy. The gas stream is heated, and this can be accomplished with natural gas, propane, steam, oil or waste heat.

Flash drying requires an accelerated air stream. This is normally accomplished by means of a high pressure fan and a Venturi. The feed is introduced into the gas stream by a metering device, normally a screw conveyor, and is lifted and conveyed where the thermal transfer takes place from the product to the gas stream.

Separation of the product and the gas stream is accomplished by use of highly-efficient cyclones, and any remaining particles are removed in some cases by a bag filter, scrubber, or other means to meet your discharged air requirements. Closed loop systems with condensers are also available for solvent recovery, N2 processing and heat recovery.
